WHAT IS BIOMORPHISM OR BIOMORPHIC ART?

Derived from the Greek, bios (life) and morphe (form), this term in the world of visual arts refers to the creation of sculptural elements that evoke forms from the plant or animal world.

Connected with Surrealism and Art Nouveau, this artistic expression even occurs in architecture, for example, the interior of the Sagrada Familia Church, with its branching columns, similar to tree trunks, and the roof of the TWA Flight Center building, similar to a pair of wings, among others.

CREATIVE PROCESS
At the end of 2021, I returned to work full of inspirations collected over a sabbatical year, so I began to explore biomorphic art, creating everything from sculptures to functional objects such as wall lights, pendants and lamps.

During the research phase, I come across patterns in nature that repeat themselves in surprising ways, such as the spiral of the snail that repeats itself in the eye of the tornado and in the fern shoot.

Adding these patterns, I embark on the creative process with the desire to produce something organic and hybrid at the same time.

This hybridity opens up space for countless interpretations and so that I do not contaminate the viewer's ideas, I reserve my reading of the piece. As a way of leaving the path of interpretation even freer, I began to title the works with names such as: Lurdes, Alba, Teresa, etc.

If my objective has been achieved, anyone who sets eyes on this work will intuitively search their memory for what it resembles and will interpret it according to their experience.
